On July 10–15, 2022, join the staff of Tel Shimron Excavations for a summer archaeological dig where you will not only be on the front lines of a hands-on project in the land of the Bible, but you will also have access to top experts and researchers while you gain a deeper understanding of the biblical world through prior discoveries and unearth new ones.
What is Tel Shimron?
Situated at the northwestern edge of the Jezreel Valley in Northern Israel, not far from the Sea of Galilee, stands Tel Shimron, an ancient site with history that spans millennia.
Since 2017, this site has been at the center of extensive archaeological investigation to uncover, layer by layer, the vastness of its 5,000-year-old history, including as an Israelite stronghold and center of early biblical life.
The word shimron in Hebrew means “to guard or to watch over,” which is apropos. Its geographic setting was also a strategic one, set on a steep hill overlooking the stunning Jezreel Valley.
The Tel Shimron site began as a research initiative of the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. To date, it has yielded important information about this once-thriving metropolis and its connection to Galilee and the trade routes of the Jezreel Valley. The project, headed by Dr. Daniel Master and Dr. Mario Martin, codirectors of Tel Shimron Excavations, have hosted scores of archaeological digs over the past few years. Now a special opportunity is available to you!
